THE 112th BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 112th British Chess Championships took place at Coventry University this August, where Monika Gergelova, CEO and creator of the Checkmate TV series, returned to competitive chess after seven years away!

Monika competed in the weekend Soanes Tournament, finishing an impressive 34th out of 72 players as she begins the journey of rebuilding her chess rating.

History was also made as 17-year-old Shreyas Royal became the youngest-ever British Open Champion, while 11-year-old Bodhana Sivanandan became the youngest British Women’s Champion.

British chess is entering an exciting new generation — and so is Checkmate.
